About the Program

Flamenco Rosario is pleased to participate once again in TAIWANfest as a partner and collaborator. Through this program, we aim to share flamenco culture, dance, and music with Vancouver audiences while creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to connect with this art form.

This year’s program will begin with a flamenco flash mob, followed by an introductory class designed for everyone to participate, regardless of previous experience. Led by Flamenco Rosario company dancers Yurie Kaneko, Katia Flores, and Charo Tsai, participants will learn basic flamenco movements and experience the rhythm, energy, and expression of this unique art form.

The program will conclude with an Artist Talk featuring Charo Tsai, who will share her personal journey as a Taiwanese flamenco dancer living and developing her artistic career in Canada. Join us for an opportunity to experience flamenco firsthand and discover why this art form continues to connect people across cultures and around the world.

Schedule:
2:30–2:45 pm – Flamenco Flash Mob
2:50–3:30 pm – Introductory Flamenco Class (No experience required)
3:40–4:00 pm – Artist Talk with Charo Tsai

Flamenco Rosario is dedicated to the promotion and development of local, national, and international flamenco dance and music in Vancouver. In 2018, Charo embarked on a new journey in Vancouver as a marketing co-op student, where she met Flamenco Rosario at the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival. In 2019, Charo graduated from Flamenco Rosario's Professional Training Program and joined "Nuevo II" as a one of the company dancers.

Katia Flores

Katia first fell in love with Flamenco when she watched a live show in her hometown of Lima, Peru. Dance and music have always been constants in her life; however, it wasn’t until she moved to Canada and decided to pursue flamenco. Under the training and guidance of Rosario Ancer and Victor Kolstee in Vancouver, she completed Flamenco Rosario's Professional Training Program in 2011. In 2022, under Rosario Ancer’s mentorship, Katia presented her own creative piece “Unchain”, a retrospective work that paid tribute to women and feminism and incorporated Afro-Peruvian rhythms.
