What happens when a first-generation Chinese Canadian falls in love with the traditional music of Cape Breton Island?
In this new performance, Prairie Wolfe combines Scottish fiddle music, effects, and spoken word to retrace a cross-Canada journey to meet the legendary Cape Breton fiddler Buddy MacMaster. Along the way, she reflects on migration, tradition, and the role music plays when language is left behind.
With guest guitarist Tim Readman.
Prairie Wolfe is a Vancouver-based Celtic fiddler whose playing explores the raw, unbound edge of traditional folk music. Largely self-taught and grounded in ear-based tradition, she has performed across Celtic music communities in Vancouver, Boston, and Seattle, appearing on stages such as Vancouver Folk Music Festival and Northwest Folklife. Her live performances blend fiddle and rhythm to create immersive, unguarded musical experiences.
