Music has the power to tell stories, connect us, and drive change.
Dawn of Freedom (DOF) 自由港 is made up of a group of Hong Kongers who wants to tell stories of the place they call home. Preserving their beloved Cantopop, they use music to connect and raise awareness of the happenings in Hong Kong, voicing out for those who can no longer speak up.
Their performance today titled “Ripple” features four original songs that would take us along the emotional journey of their experience rooted in the 2019 Anti-extradition Bill protests in Hong Kong.
Dawn of Freedom (DOF) is formed by new immigrants from Hong Kong. They insist on writing songs in Cantonese and continue to use rock music to speak out against Hong Kong's increasingly oppressive political environment.
TAIWANfest Vancouver is grateful to be held on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). We acknowledge our privilege to be gathered here, and commit to work with and be respectful to the Indigenous peoples of this land while we engage in meaningful conversations of culture and reconciliation.
