The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society of Vancouver will offer a colourful display of various social dances from Scotland, with pairs of dancers interacting in groups. Guests will enjoy the lively jig and reel music, and also the slower, more stately rhythms of the Strathspey. After the display, guests will be invited to join the dancers for some vigorous and fun dancing that anyone can pick up easily.
There will be a festival booth with video footage of dancing, brochures, and displays of Scottish culture.
These dancers have a range of dance experience from 3 years to 50 years! This wonderful hobby provides a physical workout (fitness), good memory exercise, a supportive community (friendship), and a lot of fun. The dancers come from many different backgrounds, e.g. professions, business careers, artistic pursuits, trades, athletics, academia. Some come with Highland dance skills, some have pursued other types of dancing. They have discovered this activity in various ways, and they find it very fulfilling and always challenging. Once hooked, they are totally committed to improving their dance skills, learning new dances, travelling around the world to dance with other groups and simply having joy in their lives!
